Pritam Chakraborty, mononymously known as Pritam, is an Indian
music director and composer from Kolkata. He has composed music for several
Bollywood movies, including Dhoom. Career: Pritam moved to Mumbai after
completing his sound engineering course from FTII Pune. During his stay in
Mumbai, he began composing ad jingles and became friendly with a number of
other young strugglers like Shantanu Moitra, Rajkumar Hirani, Sanjay Gadhvi and
Jeet Ganguly. During this time, Pritam composed famous jingles for brands like
Santro, Emami, Head and shoulders and also composed title tracks for tele
serials like Astitva, Kavyanjali, Yeh Meri Life Hain, Remix, Kashmir, Mili, Dil
Kya Kare,Krishna Arjun,Dekho Magar Pyaar Se,Kyun Hota Hai Pyaar etc. Pritam got
his first break when Sanjay Gadhvi was signed on to direct ″Tere Liye″ and he,
in turn, signed on his friends Jeet and Pritam as music composers. Though the
music was well received, the film sank at the box office. However, in 2002,
Jeet and Pritam were signed for Yash Raj Films, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai also
directed by Sanjay Gadhvi. After some time, Jeet and Pritam went separate ways
and started composing solo. Pritam's career as a solo composer began with
Fun2shh...Dudes in the 10th Century, Agnipankh, Ankahee etc. In 2004, Pritam
composed the music for Sanjay Gadhvi's film, Dhoom, which was a runaway success
with Dhoom Machale topping the chart. The success of Dhoom continued with a
string of hit songs like Halka Halka from Chocolate, Garam Masala, Gangster,
Woh Lamheand Dhoom 2 Life in a... Metro directed by Anurag Basu, portrayed
Pritam in a different manner where he featured in the film as part of the Metro
band in 2007. Pritam went on to score films like Singh Is King, Kismat
Konnection, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Awarapan, Dhan Dhana Dhan, Goal, Jab We Met, Race,
Naqaab, Jannat, Billu, Love Aaj Kal, Golmaal Returns, Tum Mile, Ajab Prem Ki
Ghazab Kahani, De Dana Dan, Badmaash Company, Raajneeti, Once Upon a Time in
Mumbaai, Crook, Action Replayy, Golmaal 3, Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, Dum Maaro
Dum, Ready, Mausam, Desi Boyz, Players, Agent Vinod, Jannat 2, Ferrari Ki
Sawaari, Cocktail, Barfi!, Race 2, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Once Upon ay Time in
Mumbai Dobaara! and more. , Television: Pritam has mentored and judged for Zee
TV's, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2009. Pritam also judged for Chhote Ustaad. He
has also featured in the NDTV Greenathon. Pritam has featured in the programme
X factor, as a guest judge and has also appeared for Zee Bangla Saregamapa
2012-2013 as the guest judge for the Grand Finale. He has composed the track
for Hrithik Roshan's TV debut, Just Dancewhich is sung preetham all time
favorate singer KK. Live shows: Pritam has performed live all over India and
abroad, in cities like London (13 April 2014) Dubai, Singapore, Lagos, Muscat

In 2011, he won the Big Star Award for his song "Pee Loon" in Once
Upon A Time in Mumbaai. He also won The Global Indian Film and Television
Honours award for "Special Music Director" for his music in Once Upon
a Time in Mumbaai and Mirchi Music Listeners Choice "Album of The
Year" for the same.
Pritam
has been accused of plagiarism on several occasions, wherein he has copied the
music for a number of his most popular Hindi film songs from various artists
from around the world (especially Asia), without giving credit to the original
artists themselves. In some cases he has bought the copyright and given due
credit too.
Taiwanese singer Lee-Hom Wang and his record label Sony BMG Music Entertainment Ltd. are suing Tips Films, the distributors and rights holders of Race (for which Pritam composed the music), for $320,000 in damages, accusing them of plagiarizing his song Deep in the Bamboo Grove (Chu Lin Shen Chu) into Zara Zara touch me from the film.
