Arijit Singh was born 25th April 1987 in Jiaganj, Dist.
: Murshidabad, West Bengal, India into a Bengali family. His Grand-mother,
Mother, and Sister are singers. As per Arijit Sing statement his Sister is much
better singer than him. In short he came from a fully Musical Family. But it
was not easy for him to pursue career in Music as he came without any so called
‘Godfather’. His father is a LIC agent and his mother is a housewife, but his
family always supported him for a Musical Career. Arijit is trained classical
singing and performed many stage shows in college time.
Arijit started his journey through the reality show
“Fame Gurukul” in 2005, and became the top 6 contestant but failed to win. But
people like him enough. He was offered to record an album from Kumar Taurani of “Tips” which took almost a year to be
recorded, mixed and mastered but was never released. His second attemt was one
more reality show “10 ke 10 Le Gaye Dil”.
And then Shankar
Ehsaan Loy was gave the chance for first break on one of their song called “All For One” From High School Musical 2
(Vol 1) album. and he also sang the title song of
Tv show called Madhubala EK Junoon. After that in 2011 he sang the solo in
Hindi, Bengali, Telugu Songs. He lent his voice for Mithoon's "Phir Mohabbat" along with Mohammad Irfan Ali and Saim Bhat in Mukesh Bhatt produced
movie Murder 2 which
was released in 2011, as his first Bollywood movie song. This song created a
buzz amongst the youth and topped the charts on the radio for weeks. Though he
didn't have any other release that year, the following year, he sung for 6
movies. He worked with Pritam Chakraborty in films like Players, Agent Vinod, Cocktail and Barfi. He also did sing to Chirantan Bhatt's 1920: Evil Returns and for Vishal-Shekhar in Shanghai, where the latter fetched him Mirchi Music Awards
Upcoming Male Playback Singer award and was nominated, in the same
category for "Phir Le Aya Dil" in Barfi!.
2013 is the
most successful year for Singh where he received numerous praise and awards for
his chartbuster song "Tum Hi Ho" in Aashiqui 2. The song topped many radio charts and became
the "Love Anthem Of The Year". The
song was a critical and commercial success where it topped the Indian iTunes chart for 61 times altogether. The song fetched him, his first Filmfare, IIFA, Zee Cine, Screen and many
other awards. He worked with Jeet Ganguly for
the rest of his tracks in the album and selected "Piya Aaye Na" along
with "Tum Hi Ho" as his favorites from the album. The year marks some of his successful
songs like "Dilliwaali Girlfriend" and soul stirring
"Kabira" for Pritam Chakraborty in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. He recorded for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and for Sharib-Toshi in Jackpot. While in the
Miranda House fest in Delhi, Singh said he wasn't completely happy with the
actors in the video of the latter which is one of his 'personal favourite'
songs. Re-created version of
"Har Kisi Ko" in Boss, received mixed reactions from critics,
while songs like "Kashmir Main, Tu Kanyakumari” and "Dhokha Dhadi” was well received by both critics and
audience, during the year.
2014 is also
followed by many acknowledged songs from Singh. He recorded his first track to A.R. Rahman, "Dil Chaspiya" in Kochadaiiyaan He
lends his voice for some re-created songs like "Samjhawan" in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and "Aaj Phir" in Hate Story 2 where
both received to mixed response from critics due to comparison with original
but topped many charts for weeks. He
collaborated with Sajid-Wajid for Main Tera Hero and Heropanti, where "Palat - Tera Hero Idhar Hai"
from former, received mixed response from reviewers and "Raat Bhar" from latter, rocked music charts during the
released days with positive reviews. He
also recorded "Mast Magan" in 2 States forShankar Ehsaan Loy, which
topped iTunes India chart and was acclaimed. Other
songs released during the year, like "Tu Hi Hai Aashiqui" for Dishkiyaoon, "Suno
Na Sangemarmar" for Youngistaan, songs
from City Lights, Mary Kom, "Humdard"
for Ek Villain and
"Jiya" for Gunday, were
well received by the reviewers, while "Shanivaar Raati" from Main Tera Hero, "Saawan Aaya Hai" from Creature 3D] and
songs of Holiday received mixed response from critics.
